The Daystar University Law Journal (DULJ) is a groundbreaking, robust, thought-provoking and engaging biannual academic law publication. It is published in both hard and soft copies, therefore, accessible to a wider readership.
The journal permits legal scholars, both nationally and internationally, the opportunity and forum to conduct critical and cutting-edge research into past, current, emerging and topical legal problems. The intention is to generate new knowledge and, in the process, make practical recommendations for purposes of resolving the alluded to age-old and new legal challenges.
It is not just a forum for churning out publications for its own sake, but one that encourages problem-solving as the reason for research and writing. It seeks to generate practical remedies to constant challenges. Thus, moving the published material from bookshelves and websites to actual implementation mode via dissemination in order to offer practical solutions to society.
The journal intends to also serve as a platform for academics, to sharpen, deepen and widen the scope of their knowledge base and at the same time satisfy, if need be, the requirements for academic promotion. It will also be an invaluable fountain of information for legal practitioners that is law lecturers, legislators, judges, advocates and students.
Law students will also find this journal useful in enriching their learning and illuminating their search for practical empowering information, true to the latin maxim ‘‘scientia potentia est’’ which translates to ‘‘knowledge is power’’. And another maxim which encourages research, ‘‘inquirendo invienies’’ meaning, ‘‘by inquiring you will find’’.
This journal will also assist not just legal practitioners and learners but provoke discussion in other fora such as the legislature, judiciary and executive vis a vis their operations and functions.
In view of the above, I take this opportunity to applaud the editor-in chief and associate editor-in-chief, the editorial board, peer reviewers, and the international advisory board for the splendid work done in facilitating this publication. This journal raises the bar in the discourse of crucial legal issues of our times, on the continent and beyond.
May this journal inspire and motivate the Daystar University School of Law, and indeed legal scholars, academics, practitioners, law students, and the members of the bench to embrace research not just as a mere academic engagement but as a sacred vocation and potent instrument for societal transformation and enlightenment of the law. Tolle Lege.
